Ostomy Care at Home With a Nurse
Coming home with a new ostomy can feel overwhelming, and even a long-standing one can develop problems. Experienced In Home Care can arrange ostomy care at home from an independent nurse who comes to the home who checks how things are going, teaches you step by step, and helps solve problems, whether you have a colostomy or a urostomy. Nurse visits are provided by independent nurses who contract with Experienced In Home Care.
What the Nurse Does
- Checks the stoma and the skin around it
- Teaches you or a family member how to empty and change the pouch
- Makes sure the pouch system fits well as the stoma changes size
- Works through leaks, odor, and skin irritation
- Reviews supplies and helps you stay stocked
- Communicates with your surgeon or doctor about concerns
Teaching at Your Pace
Learning ostomy care takes practice. The nurse shows you each step, watches while you try it, and comes back until you feel confident doing it on your own. Family members and caregivers are welcome to learn too.
Problem-Solving When Something Changes
If the pouch starts leaking, the skin becomes sore, or the fit no longer seems right, a nurse visit can find the cause and get things back on track. The nurse will also tell you when a concern should go to your doctor.
Nurse Visits Alongside Home Care
